More Lowcountry Doings in April
The Charleston Museum is celebrating Spring with an eggscellent day spent exploring the world of EGGS. Eggs of all kinds are introduced on Wednesday April 1st at 3:30. It wouldn’t be Easter without the grand tradition of an Easter bonnet Parade. The Hat Ladies have risen to the occasion. Their 8th Annual Easter Promenade will begin on the corner of Meeting and Broad Streets and meander down to White Point Gardens. Ladies, gents, children and pets will show off their Spring creations at 11 on the 11th.
Middleton Place will join the fun with an Eggstravaganza on the 11th. The Easter Bunny will lead the hunt for candy and prize eggs hidden for children of all ages.
This year for the first time ever a whole week of activities are gathered into the week leading up to Sunday Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival. Called Fleet Week, it begins on the 22nd with free cooking demonstrations at Whole Foods. There’s a presentation on Shem Creek-A History of the Creek and Shrimping on Wednesday, Sessions on Lowcountry shrimp and Blessing of the Fleet painting, A Taste of Shem Creek on Saturday and a Blessing of the Fleet Sunset and Shaggin’ Cruise.
The next day enjoy the 22nd Annual Town of Mt. Pleasant Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival. Held at Alhambra Hall overlooking the Harbor on the 26th, the event celebrates the local shrimping industry. No admission and free parking guarantees a crowd to help bless the parade of trawlers.
Kiawah is going all out for its Earth Day celebration with its very first “Greenival”. Enjoy Bluegrass, eco-friendly games and crafts and learn to reduce your carbon footprint. Festivities include the Yippy Hippy Olympics including the Recycle relay, Compost Collection Selection and a TRASHformation Sculpture Contest with an animal, plant and earth theme. Admission is free but a canned good & gently used book donation is encouraged. An E-Waste collection site will be available (electronics).
The Buccaneer is the first restaurant in South Carolina to become a member of the Green Restaurant Association for it efforts like using energy and water efficient technologies, recycling and using recycled products, supporting sustainable farmers and purveyors.
