Frtom Cezanne to Grits-April in Charleston

      March Madness will culminate April 4th and 6th with the Final Four. Passover begins at Sundown on the 9th and Easter is the 12th.      It’s free family fun at Marion Square on the 18th. The Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center will celebrate “Charleston Believes” with hands-on butterfly projects, face painting and bubble machine. A 6-12 year art contest will be held and fire trucks will be there for tours.     The first International Festival of Choirs April 16th-19th will feature twenty groups from across the world in venues across the city.       Dance the night away at the MUSC Charity Ball will be held at the Omar Shrine Convention Center on the 11th to benefit local charities.     If a good movie is more what you’re looking for, Charleston’s Second Annual Film Festival  at the Terrace Theatre. The 4 day event beginning the 23rd will have red carpet premieres, networking events, workshops, after parties and a gala Awards Ceremony.       The Historic Old Village Home Garden and Art Tour will be held on the 19th beginning on Pitt Street between Bank and Ferry. Here’s a chance to see some local artists show their work as it should be seen.       “April Showers”, the First Fridays on Gallery Row, will be held 5-8 pm on the 3rd. Fine Art and refreshments available on Broad Street.     The City Gallery presents a rare opportunity to view an eclectic collection of surreal paintings belonging to Summerville native Robert Seay.  The works include Chagall, Dali and Picasso, April 9th.     The Columbia Museum of Art is exhibiting an incredible impressionist collection amassed by the Davis sisters of Wales, early collectors of modern art. The “Turner to Cezanne” exhibit has 53 works of the original 260 on display through June 7.     Other events in the state include the 23rd Annual Grits Festival held in St George the 17th-19th. 100 million pounds of grits are consumed by Americans each year so it seems only fair that there be a festival. The highlight is the Rolling in the Grits contest. How much grits would stick to you in 10 seconds?  The Cajun Festival cranks up at James Island County park on the 5th. The Folly Beach Sea and Sand Festival is on the 18th. The same day Port Royal will host the Soft Shell Crab Fest  and Woodruff has The Stone Soup Festival . I think I’d have to pack a picnic lunch for that one.
