Fall in the Lowcountry-so much to do
It’s official. Fall has come to the Lowcountry. Even though the weather may not agree, you can always count on it changing very soon. So many events are planned for October, it will amaze you. The major buzz in town is about the Charleston premiere of local author, Sue Monk Kidd’s “The Secret Life of Bees” on the 16th. Starring Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning, the movie will open at the Terrace Theatre with a reception afterwards at the Harbor Club.
The Preservation Society is showing off the Holy City in its 32nd Annual Fall Tour of Houses and Gardens, Thurs.-Sun. in October. Each day will see a different street highlighted.
Area decorative artists and craftsmen will show one of a kind designs at the Charleston Home Market at 10 Storehouse Row at The Navy Yard at Noisette on the 23rd-25th. Think of it like a homegrown High Point Market. Kicking off the event will be the Upper King Street Walk held in the Design District on the 23rd.
What’s a more-sustainable city and how do we measure and make them? Learn from the CSO of SustainLane, Warren Karlenzig, at the Visitor Center’s Theatre on the 21st.
The Charleston Museum has opened a new exhibit, Brilliant! Ancient to Modern Lighting. This first installment will cover the ancient to 19th century time line.
Have an overdue library book from Charleston County and too embarrassed to return it? Your best bet is to show up at the circulation desk on the 5th. With each donation of a specific food item, they will forgive $1 in late fines up to $20. Donations go to the Lowcountry Food Bank.
Whale of a Sale returns to the Gaillard on the 25th from 9am-2pm. You’ll be done in time to make the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity Oyster Roast hosted by Bishop Gadsen at Drayton Hall. The fun starts there at 4 pm.
