New technology is amazing, I confess my dream vacation would be a trip to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. But with these advances come a downside. My friend Suzanne at the Techlicious.com blog wrote about how you can “pull back” damaging post and photos off facebook and twitter with a morning after app.

The latest gaff to be discovered is in the IPhone. Did you know that the phone stores your location and if you sync with a computer, a file is available there to show your locations for the last year too? That’s what Techlicious’ blogger, Josh, found out. Imagine…were you really on a business trip? Working late?  Anyone with access to your phone/computer can find out. It may make private detectives obsolete! How about if you were playing hookey and not home in bed with the flu for a week? It’s all in there! And for you conspiracy theorists, who is collecting the data?????

We’ll wait to see what Apple has to say, but it really smacks of Big Brother. Check out Suzanne at www.Techlicious.com   Great site.

Good news today from our real estate market. Our market showed closed sales up 8.2% at 1,912 over last year”s first quarter showing of 1,757. This should be seen as a very positive posting since last year at this time, you recall, we were in the midst if the tax credit boost for first time buyers. These numbers are from Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

Inventory has dropped 17% to 8,594 homes from the same first quarter of 2010. There were 10,349 homes on the market available for sale at the end of March 2010.

The median sales price has also dropped by 6.1%, down to $173,779  from a 2010 Q1 of $185,000. The foreclosure and short sale entries ito the market have had an effect here.

These are the numbers to keep in mind when you see the scare headlines in the newspaper or on national TV news. We are actually doing ok here in the Lowcountry..

What a beautiful morning! The windows are open, the sky is blue and the little boy at the bus stop is practicing his flute. Now this is a nice morning off. There’s nothing like the constant scent of citrus flowers coming in on the breeze. Especially after the house has been closed up for the winter.

I was reading Suzanne’s Techlicious.com site and I came across a handy bit of info! We’re always hearing about the bad choices some people make when posting photos on facebook or verbal Sheen-like rants on Twitter. Ones that you will either regret in the morning or won’t want a future boss to look at when deciding your corporate fate. We’ve all been there, but with social media, some things  follow you like a black cloud.

There is a new app for the IPhone dudded the first morning after app. Downloaded from ITunes, you tell it the time frame and it will show you the evidence. Tell it what to erase and it’s gone like a bad dream. Named the Last Night Never Happened app, it will not erase your friends’ photos so be prepared to grovel.

It’s Sunday and a clear Carolina Bluebird day.  We took a bike ride earlier to the Coast Guard Base on Folly Beach. I’m checking our citrus trees and the new flowers opening on the grapefruit have such a heady aroma. It is remarkable. We thought we had lost the meyer lemon so we cut it back and for the first time gave it a good shot of fertilizer, we usually let nature take its course. Then we waited. And waited. There’s finally some new growth starting to shoot out so we’ll say fine to no crop this year, but next we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

We took the 1950 Ford surf wagon downtown to cruise the streets after the Bridge Run. I have never seen so many people walking King Street and just about all of them had shopping bags. What a boon it is for our economy!

April 1, 2011 April Fools Day

It’s the day before the Bridge Run and that always finds us volunteering at the Expo and packet pick-up. It was amazingly well organized this year especially considering the number of people running/walking/wheeling.  The expo was full of good ideas, equipment and clothing.  This year the race will be run in waves according to number. Hats off to Joe Riley for declaring a parking fee holiday and for the City of Charleston Police Dept. for keeping the traffic moving around the Gaillard. Good luck to all of you runners tomorrow.

Friday, April Fool’s Day

It’s that time of year! This is a huge weekend for Charleston. The Flowertown Festival starts its 3 day event today in Summerville. The Cajun Festival is at the James Island County Park on Sunday from 12-6. The really big impact this weekend will be from the Bridge Run. The world class event sold out, I think, for the first time. I’ll be working the expo today directing runners to packet pickup and being a problem solver. It’s fun and I look forward to it each year. I’m so proud of what Julian Smith has done as the race director. He was voted  Race Director of the Year once again a few months ago on the West Coast. A deserved title, I think!

I saw this house on Folly Beach and it made me laugh. Hope it does the same for you on this rainy day.

It’s the premiere of the new surfing movie by the Thomas Brothers and McKevlins surf shop tonight at the American Theatre. It was alot of fun with a rowdy (these were surfers after all)  and alot of them were on the screen Ian flew in from California. He recently moved out there from McKevlins and is now an O’Neil rep.
