Charleston Real Estate Market

You can tell when summer hits the Folsom house…the Woodie backs out, gets tuned up and polished. Should hit 90 today and tomorrow and cool down for Mother’s Day to about 75. What a nice present. 

A few events to mention for the weekend:

The much acclaimed “Decadent Divas” a fashion, music and dance extravaganza, will be at the N Chas Coliseum tonight.

     If that puts you in a dancing mood, head over to the “Shaggin’ on the Cooper” party at the Mt. Pleasant Visitors Center on the 8th. More? You can be Shaggin’ on the Pier at Folly on the 14th.

     What to do for Mother’s Day? Don’t just buy roses, take Mom to the 18th Annual Charleston Rose Show on the 8th at Northwoods Mall from 1-5. Entries accepted 6:30-10am.

     Careful of the extra traffic in town on this weekend. The Citadel  Corps of Cadets will hold their commencement at 9:30 am on the 8th. The College of Charleston will hold their traditional white tie graduation a few hours later at the Cistern on George Streets at 4 pm. Lots of families in town, what a great Mother’s Day present!

     Ah, now to Mother’s Day. Honor your mother on the 9th. I saw a great bumper sticker that read Mothers are working women too. Mothers have such a more complicated role in life these days. It must be hard to balance all the needs of family, friends and spouse while still taking some time for self without guilt. So here’s to the Moms. No matter how well or poorly they do it, at least they are.

     Ever fantasize that you’re sipping cocktails and nibbling on fancy hors d’oeuvres on a spectacular yacht? On the 16th, the Charleston Yacht Affair will let you live the dream. The City Marina will host the yachts, cuisine from top local chefs, live entertainment and a chance to check out a line-up of floating elegance all to benefit the Cities in Schools program.

These last few days before the tax credit deadline have been crazy! But I did take some time to go to a retirement party out at Bowen’s Island. MiMi will be captaining the new kitchen and I’m sending you a photo of the new restaurant construction. Also, the moon setting this morning was awesome so I have to show you that. Today was graduation from Book Buddies, the reading skill tutoring that I do each week. Here’s a proud TheRon with his medal proving he graduated from the program. Good Morning. It’s a grey and stormy one today and the weather folks are calling for it to get worse this afternoon. The beach was deserted at sun up and both the pier and the washout had a little wave action. But, as Chad so aptly put it, “every day is epic at Folly Beach…relatively speaking…”

Good Morning! It’s going to be a warm 85′ today, pretty much the same as yesterday. The marsh and marinas were a pretty site in the early light, but if you were looking for more than a quick walk on the beach, you were in for a disappointment.

Things are going well in my ” new” real estate career, I feel the energy and optimism of a rookie. It feels mighty good.

It’s Friday so let’s look at what’s happening over the weekend. There’s the Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival at Alhambra Hall on Sunday; The Charleston In Water Boat Show starts today on the banks of the Ashley River downtown; Oblique Magazine (I write for them so this is a shameless plug) will host their 2nd Annual Fitness Expo at N Chas Waterfront Park; there’s the Soft Shell Crab Festival in Beaufort on Saturday, as well as the HHI Seafood Fest. The Striped Bass Tournament is ending in Manning and the oddest news: The Off the Sidewalk Run is tomorrow on the Greenway. You will head out from West Ashley Earth Fare to Krispy Kreme for a “hot now” one of the most delectable delights on earth and who knows how many will just stay for another cup of coffee?  Enjoy the weekend.

Long day on the road, showing houses from Cane Bay to Hanahan to West Ashley yesterday. I did stop off at St Paul’s in Summerville for lunch. I’m a sucker for the goodies served at springrime tea room luncheons across the Lowcountry.

St Paul’s is beautiful in its simplicity. Now more than 175 years old, it is the oldest established church in the town.  It began as a summer ministry to plantation families fleeing health concerns in the lower lying coastal plain. The pineland ridge, which became known as Summerville was settled in 1790.

 Big news, I’ve left Carolina One and moved to a boutique agency downtown. I’m excited, it reminds me of starting in the business so long ago.

Today, I resign from Carolina One. It has been my real estate home for the past thirteen years in all its incarnations: Coldwell Banker O’Shaughnessy, Prudential Carolina and recently Carolina One. I am going to a boutique agency downtown where I can take everything I’ve learned and practice real estate the way I would like. It’s an exciting prospect, I hope you’ll all join me.
