April in the Lowcountry
April Fool’s Day is upon us. So beware the prankster in your midst. Spring has arrived with a vengeance; at least the pollen has. I’m sure the temperature will steady during the month. The flowers are beginning to pop out and the entire lowcountry is awash in color. Enjoy the beauty around you, so many people envy you the chance to live here.
Summerville leads the way with the Flowertown Festival, an event that was named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society. It’s 3 full days, family-oriented and held the 3rd-5th. It’s also SC’s largest Arts and Crafts fest and the best part is that it’s FREE.
The 62nd Annual Spring Festival of Houses and Gardens continues through the 18th. Tours of 11 colonial and antebellum neighborhoods benefit the Historic Charleston Foundation.
The Preservation Society of Charleston will host a special tour of a unique historic neighborhood. Hampton Park Terrace was placed on the National Register in 1997 for its collection of early 20th century homes. Visit them on the 26th.
Help support Women Build and visit the Charleston Tea Plantation on the 18th. The Sea Island Habitat and the Hat Divas are teaming up for a benefit Habitat for HumaniTea Party. Wear your best hat!
If you need something a little stronger, Middleton Place is holding its Spring Winefest on the 1st and 8th. Enjoy your libation overlooking the famous Azalea hillside from 5:30-7:30.
Spring is the time for Piracy 101 at the Buccaneer Restaurant on the 4th. It’s a Brunch and Learn afternoon of pirate activities with a guest pirate telling tales of the Golden Age of Piracy and lots of kid-friendly fun like the pirate flag making competition.
