Today is important to anyone looking for the tax credit as a first time buyer. This is the deadline to have a contract ratified in order to claim.
Around town this weekend:
May is almost here and that means and end to school and plenty of visitors coming to the Lowcountry. It also brings Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Teacher’s Day. I guess we honor them for making it through the year.
May 5th is an international favorite, Cinco de Mayo, celebrated here on May 1st this year. The Visitors Center Bus Terminal will be the place to be from 7-11pm.
The 18th Annual Dining with Friends will find spectacularly spread tables throughout the Lowcountry. Friends will join for champagne and dessert at the Maritime Center at 9pm.
Here’s something different for lighthouse fans in the area. The Sullivan’s Island Lighthouse, the last major lighthouse built in the US, will hold an open house from 1-4pm. The National Park Service invites you to visit the USCG Historic District at 1815 I’On Avenue on Sullivan’s Island on the first.
The City of North Charleston will host their Arts Festival from this weekend through the 8th. The nine day celebration draws over 30,000 visitors annually.
Drayton Hall has a new twist on the plantation tour. Called the Preservation Tech Tour, it will take those interested in preservation, architecture and building arts behind the scenes to learn what it takes to save a historic home on the first Saturday of May June and July, 8:30 am Also, the First Saturday program will explore the theme of Nature and Culture for children 6-12.
Throughout the month, Middleton’s Summer Wine Strolls will be held each Wednesday 5:30-7 in a different garden spot
The SC Maritime Foundation is hosting a rare adult sail on the Spirit of South Carolina on the 1st.
Throughout the month is the in-the-round presentation of “Romancing the Hunley.” It tells the tale of the Civil War harbor blockades and is set three days after the Hunley disappeared. Matinees are Friday & Sunday at 3:30 at the Powder Magazine.
